The Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Assistant Underwriter to join our dynamic team. In this key role, you will support our underwriting team by helping to assess and process loan applications. Your contributions will be vital in ensuring that all loan applications are meticulously reviewed and meet our lending criteria.

Role Responsibilities

Assist in the initial review and assessment of bridging loan and buy-to-let mortgage applications.
Collect, verify, and manage documentation required for loan applications.
Conduct preliminary analyses of applicant creditworthiness and property valuations.
Communicate with brokers, clients, and other stakeholders to gather necessary information.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all applications in the underwriting system.
Support Underwriters in preparing and presenting loan cases for approval.
Ensure compliance with all regulatory and company policies throughout the underwriting process.
Manage communication with introducers, brokers, valuers, and surveyors to ensure smooth processing of loan applications.
Organise and manage valuation instructions, inspections, and reports, as well as invoice payments and case file maintenance.
Perform essential checks, including Land Registry, AML, KYC, and other intelligent checks for new cases.

Role Requirements:

A Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, or a related field is desirable.
Previous experience in underwriting or lending, particularly in the bridging loan sector, is preferred.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to assess and manage risks effectively.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Role Responsibilities

Develop and maintain successful working relationships with introducers by generating new business through outbound calling to our existing database.
Conduct initial assessments of bridging applications, identifying potential cases before passing them to an underwriter for full evaluation.
Work closely with the underwriting team to ensure excellent service delivery to introducers.
Stay updated with current best practices and regulatory requirements through company training.
Actively reach out to existing introducers to build strong, lasting relationships and seek new business opportunities.
Communicate with introducers, following up on pending documentation to ensure timely processing.
Participate in departmental meetings, contributing ideas to improve processes and enhance efficiency.
